Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai is prepping up for the first T20 match on January 3, almost after 13 months. Pune and Rajkot will host the second and third matches on January 5 and 7 respectively. The BCCI recently released the playing XI for both formats with Hardik Pandya leading the T20 side and Rohit for ODIs. Rohit Sharma is unavailable due to his thumb injury during the Bangladesh tour. While the absence of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul allows youngsters to try their luck, it also is a test of caliber missing the three big players. However, the trio will be unavailable to the T20Is but will return to the ODI side.
Sri Lanka is high on confidence after winning the Asia Cup and would like to continue their fearless cricket, a strategy that worked well in the Asia Cup. With players like Kusal Mendis, Wanindu Hasaranga, Lahiru Kumara, Maheesh Theekshana, and captain Dasun Shanaka, the team looks solid in both departments.
