Budget crafted with elections in 2024 in mind, no mention of the poor: The opposition criticizes the Centre

Congress claimed the PM Narendra Modi-led government could not satisfy the country's aspirations, while West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said Budget 2023 was "anti-people".As soon as Nirmala Sitharaman launched her presentation in Parliament today to unveil the Union Budget for Fiscal Year 2023, the opposition was quick to voice their concerns over what had been unveiled by the Union Finance Minister today. This is the final budget before the 2024 General Assembly elections. Several opposition leaders claim it was designed for elections, not their well-being.

West Bengal's chief minister asked at a Birbhum event, "Is it a budget or something? Unemployment is not part of it."

"There is no future in this Union Budget. It is opportunistic, anti-poor, and anti-people. It will not help solve the country's unemployment problem. This Budget has been prepared with an eye to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024" said Banerjee.
